JOYCE LADY FISHER

Born Joyce Paykel in 1912, she grew up in Epsom, Auckland.

In 1935 Joyce married Woolf Fisher, who along with her brother Maurice had founded Fisher and Paykel a year earlier. The company was destined to become a world leading manufacturer. Sir Woolf (knighted for philanthropy in 1964) launched a Charitable Trust in 1960 to be followed by Lady Joyce launching her own Trust in 1975.

Joyce and Woolf enjoyed entertaining young people and having wider family join them. Through these connections their abiding focus became one of helping advance young New Zealanders through education.

Joyce was always surrounded by her beloved labradors and horses and this spawned a further area of focus for her charitable contributions.
